In an effort to assist students, parents and the community, the following is an outline that sets forth the process for addressing a student’s academic or safety concerns and will govern communications between staff and others in the VCUSD community.

If any step in the line of communication is not followed, the issue in question will be immediately referred back to the first skipped level.

Line of Communication – Academic

  • Student speaks with teacher (6th – 12th)
  • Student and parent communicate with teacher
  • Student and parent communicate with (academic support provider or counselor), vice principal and teacher
  • Student and parent communicate with (academic support provider or counselor), vice principal, principal and teacher
  • Student and parent communicate with District administration and site personnel, as needed

Line of Communication –Safety 

  • Student speaks with adult on campus (teacher, site safety supervisor, academic support provider, yard/cafeteria supervisor, office manager, mental health provider, custodian, instructional assistant)
  • Student and parent communicate with vice principal or principal
  • Student and parent communicate with District administration and site personnel as needed

Line of Communication – Athletics

  • Student/athlete speaks with coach
  • Student/athlete and parent communicate with coach
  • Student/athlete and parent communicate with coach and athletic director
  • Student/athlete and parent communicate with coach, athletic director and principal
  • Student/athlete and parent communicate with District office and site personnel, as needed
