Glen Cove Elementary School first and fourth graders have been doing a variety of STEAM projects the last few weeks.

One of the first-grade classes have started a new unit on Shadows and Light, so they are learning new vocabulary (Translucent, Transparent, and Opaque)

According to Whitney Yragui, S.T.E.A.M. Content Specialist, these photographs show how science is incorporated into ELA. There are sentence starters on the board and the students had to choose one of the objects that they made shadows with and write if it made a shadow, kind of made a shadow, or did not make a shadow.

One of the fourth-grade classes has been working hard to learn about various types of energy including wind, sound, and electric.

The pictures show them working on their posters after doing research, this helps connect multiple principles. Which includes; math, problem-solving, reading, inferring, and comprehension.
