National Engineer’s week was February 18th through the 22nd, Vallejo High School celebrated in grand fashion by holding several events for all of its engineering students and community. First with our annual interview and engineer speed round, where engineers from all the local community sit at various tables and interview a small group of students about what it’s like to work as an engineer. After three minutes the engineers move to the next table, students were given a much needed real life experiences about their perspective future careers. Next, we recognized National Engineering Woman’s Day! Our Academy female students were treated to a fun lesson in design and given free use to the brand new maker space and design lab. This event was led by our very own VHS role
models Ms. May Lozada (VHS Engineering Teacher), Ms. Deborah Ceryes (Parent), and Ms. Vivet Beckford Nelson (Academy Lead Teacher), our future women Engineers designed projects using 3-D printers and our laser cutter. Lastly, the week was summed up by the annual all Engineering Academy Mixer/Social. Students were recognized and awarded certificates for their hard work and aptitude in areas of Academics, Project Designs, and Academy service. Several Engineering Advisory Board members, Dan Kerr, Allan Panganiban, Stacy Shonk, and Sharon Shonk were also recognized for their dedicated service as well.
